Consumption May Prevent Heart Disease in Diabetics
People with diabetes have a heightened risk of cardiovascular disease.
Fortunately, advising diabetic patients to eat more fish may slash
their odds of developing heart disease.
According to a new report, which followed 5,103 women with type
2 diabetes for 16 years, the more fish a subject ate, the less likely
she was to develop cardiovascular disease. Specifically, compared
with participants who ate fish less than once a month, women who
consumed fish 1 to 3 times a month were 30% less likely to develop
heart disease. Those who ate fish 2 to 4 times a week cut their
risk by 36% - and those who ate fish at least 5 times a week lowered
their risk by 64%.
